Special Occasions

We love a special occasion at Mrs Mitchell’s – its the perfect excuse to be a little creative and invent a new recipe, or two! We also love to spoil people, so we relish the challenge of making a fabulous new afternoon tea box that you’ll be proud to gift or share with your favourite people! Every occasion we break a new record. Last Christmas we got out of bed super early, in order to make the most afternoon tea’s ever! Then this Valentines day we broke that record again…

Making Afternoon Tea…

There’s a whole lot of mixing, drizzling, baking, cooling, piping, setting, waiting, stirring, whisking, spreading, chopping, melting and frying that goes into a Mrs Mitchell’s Afternoon Tea. Here’s a glimpse of just some of the work that goes into your afternoon teas… The chicken and bacon in our pinwheels has to be mixed at just the right ration to mayonnaise. Plus, I hate the cheap mayonnaise they often use in premade mixes so making my own is the only way to make sure they are just right. These are Lily’s…

A New Look!

It’s been two years since I realised a dream and started For Cakes Sake. Back then, I had plenty of ideas about what I wanted to do and how I wanted to do it. But, two years is a long time. So of course, my business has grown and naturally found its own direction over time. And then there was the pandemic! The pandemic was a blessing and a curse for me. It brought with it many highs and lows, and thanks to that, I have learned a lot over…

Picking out Jam

There’s jam and there’s jam! And this is JAM! Deciding to upgrade the jam we serve with our scones in our afternoon tea’s was a big decision. The jam we had was ok, but was it good enough? Nope! Not any more. We wanted to make our afternoon tea as good as it could be, so I started searching for yummy jam makers. I wanted local, and I wanted Strawberry, although I appreciate the Scottish Cream Tea should be served with Scottish Raspberry Jam, I thought the Strawberry would suit…

100 Afternoon Tea Boxes

Phew! 100 Afternoon Tea Boxes for Kirkton Community Larder Those wonderful people at Kirkton Community Larder wanted to help local residents that had been isolated due to the coronavirus lock down. We were thrilled when they asked us if we could help with a project to bring 100 Afternoon Tea Boxes to St Mary’s LMG, residents of Santuary Housing and sheltered housing. It was such a generous idea and the residents were thrilled with their afternoon tea’s.  This was only phase one of a plan to help those who have been shut in due to the…

An Incredible Year

This time last year I was dreaming about creating a new way to enjoy afternoon tea. I was bored with cafes and hotels and loved the idea of doing something a bit different. I wanted a comfy chair and my slippers. I wanted to watch my favourite movie or a play a board game. I wanted a spot on the beach where people could wander by spying on my posh picnic. So I made up the afternoon tea box. Humble beginnings You must all love it too because one year…

Afternoon Tea should be more than just a late lunch…

I was reminded this weekend as to why I started my Afternoon Tea business all those months ago and why we go to so much effort at For Cakes Sake to create our afternoon tea boxes the way we do. It was one comment that put it all into perspective for me and got me thinking. We get a lot of great feedback, but this message stood out for me in particular. She had gifted a box to her mother who was shielding in Dundee, to cheer her up. In…

We’re in the News!

Yay, it’s so exciting to be featured in the local press and especially such amazing publications as the food and drink section of The Scotsman and the discerning Field Magazine… Field Magazine I love how Field magazine talked about turning your home and office into the Ritz with our awesome, grand hotel standard, afternoon tea treats. That’s exactly how we imagined it would be! Pass the prosecco… The Scotsman The Scotsman loved our takeaway idea. We’re proud to be North-East Scotland’s first takeaway afternoon tea, and we’re the poshest too!…

For Cakes Sake is Go!!

After months of hard work, the time has come to actually launch this thing! It only feels like yesterday that I decided to make a business out of baking. I love entertaining, and I love afternoon tea, so it was only a matter of time before I combined them both into a business. But that was way back in January. A lot of Hard Work! A lot has happened to get For Cakes Sake to where it is now. To be honest, I think I rather underestimated how much work…
